location: Seattle, WA

Anchored at the SE corner of the the beautifully remodeled Climate Pledge Arena – a 1962 Seattle World’s Fair building – the sculpture is a portal to the celestial stars seen through SkyView® Lite, a free phone app for stargazing. The round lights on the ground are in sync with the Augmented Reality (AR) features of the app and they blink to signal the Raven is in that location.
Known among Native Peoples and cultures worldwide, the Raven brings lights where before was darkness. The sculpture is a microcosm and a map of both the sky and Seattle. The round lights in a semi-circle match the trajectory of the constellation below the horizon. The linear lights and the basalt benches (17 million years old from Eastern Washington), orient us to Seattle’s street grids. This project is our portal to the celestial universe and a place to sit back, pierce the horizon and discover.
