Empire State Building Observatory Entrance
location: New York City
photography: Steve Lerum, Inter-lux
Visiting the Empire State Building is an iconic New York City tradition. The dedicated entrance for accessing its two observatories, located on the 86th and 102nd floors, was created to transform the visitor experience by improving the traffic flow and cultivating an appreciation for the building’s history.
The ceiling of this entrance features geometric shapes of suns, moons, and stars, similar to the Art Deco design in the building’s main lobby. Luminous Slim Indirect rings by Sattler add light and dimension to the celestial artwork and a metallic finish helps them blend seamlessly with the color palette. Slim Indirect is an innovative luminaire with an aluminum profile and integrated opal diffuser.
