2011 Crystal Drive

A restaurant in Arlington, Virginia draws in customers with an impressive display of custom-designed globe lighting by Inter-lux/Stoane Lighting adorning the entrance. Serving everything from coffee to cocktails, the goal of The Freshman’s owner, Nick Freshman, was to create an all-day café where people could gather and have their needs met anytime throughout the day. The 3,400-square-foot restaurant has seating for 120, plus another 50 on the outdoor patio, where the globe luminaires are most visible. The interior, designed by Studio //3877 features a colorful mural by a local D.C. artist.

The lighting created for The Freshman consists of 8 shiny laser-cut metal globes that sparkle in the daylight and cast a pattern of dots when lit from within by Stoane Lighting’s G-CAT product. G-CAT is a versatile, decorative yet functional, robust wire-mounted IP66 rated downlighter. It can be mounted to a catenary wire using a locking hinge mechanism or via a direct single suspension from a ceiling or canopy structure above.

G-CAT is compatible with multiple wired and wireless control methods and available with a wide range of source choices in CRI, CCT, fixed or tunable (tunable white or RGB) and integral or remote drivers. Optically, many permutations are available; variously shaped acrylic fronts (tubular, orb etc), bezel and lens or patterned shades.

Stoane Lighting products are designed to be aesthetically simple without superfluous detail. They integrate seamlessly into any environment while delivering high-performance lighting. Sustainability is paramount to Stoane Lighting and that factors into the luminaires they create. The aluminum in G-CAT is over 90% recycled and the acrylic is virgin (for optical purity and longevity without yellowing) but 100% recyclable. Parts can easily be disassembled and no tool is needed to separate the optical element from the main housing. This allows for circularity in the G-CAT’s life cycle. Light sources, controls and mounting mechanisms can all be changed and upgraded as site usage requires. A 5-year warranty and 20-year duty-of-care support comes as standard.

These eye-catching luminaires enhance the curb appeal of The Freshman in addition to guiding customers to the entrance.
